From now on, Iceland companies must prove they offer equal pay to all employees regardless their gender, age, and ethnicity.
Iceland has already been ranked the best country in the world for gender equality but still, there is 14-18 percent women in the country earning less than Men.
According to a new legislation, every company with 25 or more staff is required to gain a certificate demonstrating they adhere to pay equality, in order to eradicate the gender pay gap by 2022.
Social Affairs Minister Thorsteinn Viglundsson said,
“Equal rights are human rights”
“We need to make sure that men and women enjoy equal opportunity in the workplace.’’
He further added,
”You have to dare to take new steps, to be bold in the fight against injustice”
