James Cameroon officially confirmed that the much anticipated Avatar 2 won’t be released in 2018 as previously eyed. In a recent statement, Cameroon addressed the fans and said that he is giving so much of time to the next 4 Avatar movies and as the first movie was made in more than 4 years, he is not in any hurry to make next Avatar installments compromising with the quality. He said to the interviewer of The Star,
Well, 2018 is not happening. We haven’t announced a firm release date. What people have to understand is that this is a cadence of releases. So we are not making Avatar 2. We are making Avatar 2, 3, 4 and 5. It is an epic undertaking. It’s not like building the Three Gorges dam (laughs). So I know where I am going to be for the next 8 years of my life.
It’s not an unreasonable time frame if you think about it. It took us four-and-a-half years to make one movie and now we are making four. We are full tilt boogie right now. This is my day job and pretty soon we will be 24/7. We are pretty well designed on all our creatures and sets. It’s pretty exciting stuff. I wish I could share with the world. But we have to preserve a certain amount of showmanship and we are going to draw that curtain when the time is right.
The first Avatar movie created history and its record of highest grosser of all time still remains unbeaten even after 8 years.
It is a bit sad that we won’t have the second Avatar movie next year but taking what Cameroon said into consideration, it is probably a good decision to take some time and make it perfect.
James Cameroon is known for making movies that blow the mind of the audience and take the box-office by storm.
However, the release date for Avatar 3, 4 and 5 are still the same as given by 20th Century Fox, it is to be seen to what extent the following movies will be moved forward.
